Home teams dominate annual competition

For the second year running Penny Dudley's side took home the monkeys when they captured the sports woman prize.

THE Bluff Bowling Club held its annual two-day women's fours competition at the weekend.

The home side of June Foster, Elize Stapelberg, Mari McKenzie and Phyllis Maritz took home the R3,000 first prize on a score of 64+16, while the runners-up were Eve Michna, Ronel Morel, Jeanette Hinchcliff and Liz Robinson on a score of 62+22 to pocket the second place prize of R1,500.

The RDLI now Durban combination of Louise Larkin, Glenda Mathews, Bronwyn Webber and Claire Turner took third spot and R700 with a score of 61+24. There were three session prizes of R300 on offer and the first session went to Doreen Salmond's side on a 26+17 while the second session was won by Marie Sadie's side on a 26+20. The final session went to S Tweedie's team on a 25+10. The 13th spot was won by H Lilug's team.

For the second year running, Penny Dudley's side took home the monkeys when they captured the sportswoman prize.

There were three hamper raffles won, with Mari McKenzie and Jay Retief winning pamper hampers and Ann Hewer winning the dinner hamper.

On Friday the Tony Hoggins 3-3-1 killer was played, with the overall winners being Spider Williams and Ken Koch on a 4+40.

The first session was won by Chris Whitlock and Dave Matthews on a 2+22, while the second session was won by Tony Hoggins and Barry Barnes on a 2+26.

The most touchers was won by George Harris with 10 and Alex Fisher took home the roast beef while the board winners were Spider Williams and Allen Ritchie.

Bob Jubber and Joe McNamara took home the sportsmen prize on a 0 – 42.

On Saturday afternoon the men's drawn fours final was played and the 2013 champions are Gary Moffat, Robert Mhlongo, Noel Morel and Rob Davies as they defeated Clinton Bisset, Deon Maritz, Wayne Tonkin and Michael Schudel 22-10 to win the title.

On Sunday morning the outstanding semi-final of the men's nominated pairs was played. Gary Moffat and Rob Davies defeated Robert Mhlongo and Noel Morel 22-6 and will now meet Dave Rowe and Allen Ritchie in the final.

The Craig Bell any pairs takes place on the morning of Sunday, 10 November while the Lilah Nel any pairs is on Sunday, 17 November.

The annual Bluff and Wentworth challenge will take place on Saturday, 16 November at the Bluff club and will be followed by a braai. The club will supply the salads, so members to watch the notice board for the teams selection and other postings. The president thanks all those who, in whatever capacity, helped make the women's tournament a resounding success.
