EDITOR – I have resided in the suburb of Woodlands since January 1976 and I have never seen the roads and gutters so overgrown with weeds and small trees.
Where does the fault lie?
I often go to the Bluff and Umbilo areas but hardly ever see pavements and gutters overgrown with weeds as in Woodlands and Montclair. In actual fact the Bluff area is very clean.
I had occasion to travel to the Umbilo area last weekend and lo and behold, municipality staff were cleaning gutters and spraying for weeds on the pavements. I have not observed this happening in the areas under discussion in a very long while. Elections are coming up and the residents will be bombarded with SMSes, cellphone and landline calls and postbox drops by political parties, requesting their support.
I clean my own gutters and pavement area in front of my residence.
