Food hygiene concern at seniors lunch

When the parcels of food arrived, it appeared to be difficult for senior citizens and many disabled persons to handle the large parcels and help was desperately needed.

EDITOR – A big thank you from the ratepayers of ward 64 for the lunch held on 10 November at the YWP Civic Centre.

It was certainly a packed hall.

The music unfortunately was rather inappropriate and loud for a seniors lunch and was more fitting for a teenage disco. When the food finally arrived, I noticed that none of the waiters or servers wore appropriate clothing or gloves for handling food. I watched as the juice was mixed in a large barrel into which was inserted a bucket and then jugs filled from the bucket. Once again there were no gloves or appropriate clothing, aprons, caps or similar.

When the parcels of food arrived, it appeared to be difficult for senior citizens and many disabled persons to handle the large parcels and help was desperately needed. From the many comments received, it seems many senior citizens would much rather have received a food voucher in place of the lunch. Perhaps this could be considered for the next ratepayers lunch?
