The day began with a warm welcome to the attendees, many of whom have been pivotal in shaping the lives of children through their roles in early childhood development.

These women, including crèche owners, principals, teachers, cooks and cleaners, were honoured for their unwavering commitment and service.

Special guests included Gail Richards, the former chairperson of the WECD Forum, and Sister Roskruge from Gateway Clinic. Both speakers offered encouraging words, with Sister Roskruge emphasising the importance of regular health checks and self-care for all women.

Former executive of the forum Laurel Cook joined the celebration alongside the executive team of the Durban South ECD Forum, represented by Romany Roberts and Ronnet Perumal.

Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort to ensure that early childhood development sites are managed effectively and adhere to proper protocols.

Cherly Williams said “The event featured a motivational address by guest speaker Iris Fynn Cupido, who inspired the audience with her message of striving for excellence regardless of one’s background. Her empowering words resonated with the many women present, underscoring the theme of the dayv – reaching for the top and making a difference.”
