Biker loses his life in accident in Merebank

The dedicated father, son, husband and member of the Rebel Warriors biker group will be sorely missed by his family, friends and community.

VIJAY Kalicharan, a cherished member of the Merebank community, tragically died in a motorcycle accident on May 3.

At 37, Vijay was en route to purchase a pair of biker boots from BMW Pinetown when the accident occurred.

His brother, Nadier Kalicharan, recounted, “Our father had just opened the gate for him to leave the house when he met with the fateful accident on Badulla Drive. A taxi coming from Wentworth crossed a solid barrier line to pick up a load of learners, colliding with him and causing the devastating crash.”

Vijay leaves behind a wife and two young daughters, Arya (9) and Anika (5). Known for his diverse interests and talents, he was passionate about music, frequently featured on Hindvani and Lotus FM, and had produced a CD of bhajans (classical Indian music). His hobbies also included fishing, car racing and superbikes.

Professionally, Vijay was a dedicated electronic engineer. After studying electronic engineering, he founded AMPTRONIX, a business recognised even in Brazil for its outstanding repair services.

Two years ago, his love for superbikes led him to join the Rebel Warriors biker group, where he found a strong sense of camaraderie which he shared with his three brothers.

Vijay’s mother, Sharitha Kalicharan, mourned the loss of her eldest son, describing him as a precious soul who always prioritised family. “He did the very best a son could. He always made time for me and was there whenever I needed him,” she said, reflecting on their irreplaceable bond.

The community remembers Vijay not only for his professional achievements but also for his vibrant personality and the joy he brought to those around him. His untimely death has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and all who knew him.
