Collision kills pedestrian and leaves five injured

Four commuters travelling in a taxi were injured and a pedestrian was killed in the collision.

A COLLISION between a taxi and an SUV has left several people injured and one pedestrian dead in Jacobs earlier this morning (February 28).

ALS Paramedic Services reported that the incident occurred on Lansdowne Road around 06:30 when the taxi and SUV collided on the roadway before the taxi tragically hit the pedestrian. Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said that the pedestrian was declared dead on scene after sustaining fatal injuries.

“One person from the SUV sustained minor injuries and was stabilised on the scene and refused further treatment at hospital. Four occupants from the taxi had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on scene by ALS Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care they required,” said Jamieson.

At this stage, events leading up to the accident are still unknown, however, SAPS were at the scene and will be conducting further investigations.
