Rescued Crowned Eagle takes flight once again [Video]

Crow recently released the Crowned Eagle that was in its care for two months.

IN a moving tale of resiliency, on February 7, the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) released the Crowned Eagle that was rescued just last December.

The majestic eagle gracefully took to the skies once more, following a brief but crucial stint at the rehabilitation centre. The rescue mission was prompted by distress calls from concerned individuals in the Westville area, rallying Crow into action.

Clint Halkett-Siddall, Crow’s operations director, expressed, “The Crowned Eagle was ready to be released based on the bird’s strength in flight and height of flight, and we had to make sure it was landing without any issues.” Reflecting on the emotional release, he emphasised how it epitomised the core mission of Crow and rekindled their sense of purpose.

Prior to its rehabilitation journey, the eagle had endured a concussion, had favoured its right leg and had struggled with maintaining a healthy weight.

“We administered anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. We needed to give it time to recover in a quiet area and exercise in the flight aviary,” explained Halkett-Siddall.

Through a dedicated regimen of care and rehabilitation, the crowned eagle has been granted a new lease on life, poised to thrive once more in its natural habitat.

For those encountering injured or orphaned wildlife, Crow stands as a beacon of hope. Call Crow on 031 462 1127 or WhatsApp their emergency number on 083 212 5281.
