Local organisations come together to feed the community

Wentworth Angels alleviates hunger in the community through a generous vegetable donation.

IN a heartwarming demonstration of community unity, two local organisations teamed up to combat food insecurity in the Durban South area. Through a compassionate initiative, fresh vegetables are generously donated to create nourishing meals for those facing hardship.

In an ongoing partnership spanning seven years, SA Harvest and Wentworth Angels have united to address the urgent issue of food insecurity within their community. A much-needed donation from SA Harvest has enabled Tracey Williams of Wentworth Angels to provide meals to the needy.

Sihle Mqadi of SA Harvest explained their role as a non-profit organisation dedicated to collecting surplus food to prevent waste and distributing it to those in need.

“Having witnessed the impactful work of Wentworth Angels, particularly with their food drives, we felt compelled to contribute,” Sihle expressed. “Our donation included carrots, beetroots, maize, mayonnaise and porridge.”

Tracey shared that for the past five years, Wentworth Angels has collaborated with Food for Life, an organisation specialising in cooking and distributing meals to communities.

“We supply them with ingredients, and they prepare the meals,” Tracey explained. “Subsequently, Wentworth Angels takes charge of distribution.”

She further detailed their feeding schedule, noting that on Wednesdays, they provide meals to local schools, while Thursdays see them serving the general public at Dibrugarh and Dinapur roads at 17:30.
