Reflecting on her mother’s vibrant spirit, Estelle Hurter (68) shared heartfelt sentiments. Despite occasional moments of being dazed in crowds, Gouwsie’s overall health remains nearly perfect. “Remarkably, my mother continues to walk without assistance and requires no chronic medication,” Estelle revealed, emphasising Gouwsie’s enduring strength and resilience.

Recalling her upbringing, Estelle reminisced about her mother’s nurturing yet strict demeanour, highlighting Gouwsie’s unwavering dedication to family. “She was a busybody,” Estelle recalled fondly, “whether managing household affairs or organising church events. My fondest childhood memories revolve around her culinary skills; she could whip up the most delicious meals and desserts.”

The celebration, meticulously arranged by Anna van Wyk, a dear friend of over 57 years, was a testament to their profound bond. Anna shared that their friendship blossomed in 1967 during their time at the Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk on Old Mission Road, cemented by shared experiences and mutual support.
