Public unites for baby Ahana’s 5km walk/run

Ahana's parents are grateful to the Bluff Athletics Club for planning out the routes and ensuring the crowd's safety on the road.

THE BLUFF Athletics Club (BAC) successfully raised over R105 000 in support of baby Ahana Dhanuk during their 5km walk/run event on January 27.

The challenging course, skilfully curated by the athletics club, featured steep hills and lengthy straights, providing a delightful experience for both seasoned runners and everyday walkers alike. With a turnout of over 400 participants, the event aimed to raise funds and awareness for baby Ahana.

Commencing at the Bluff National Park Golf Club, the crowd embarked on a picturesque route through the Bluff. The course was designed to allow people to run past Ahana’s home, where she and Avanya Dhanuk, her mother, were seated outside, waving in gratitude to the runners and walkers passing by.

The fundraiser achieved success as Ahana’s parents, Avanya and Aveen Dhanuk, managed to generate additional funds for their daughter. This financial support will enable Ahana to have a chance at a more normal life, free from the constant challenges of testing and hospital visits. The overwhelming support from the crowd left the Dhanuk family touched, describing it as a heartwarming and motivating experience.

“Thank you to the public for coming out in support of our fundraiser and for those who generously donated in lieu of attending. A special thank you to the BAC for assisting by planning out the routes and ensuring the crowd’s safety on the road. Ahana is now one step closer to her goal,” said Avanya.

At 20 months old, Ahana was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer called neuroblastoma. Ahana’s parents are looking to raise around R7.1 million for Ahana to receive the treatment she needs from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, USA.
