CROW educates learners to celebrate World Environment Day

CROW held various fun and interactive presentations to educate children about the environment and conservation.

TO commemorate World Environment Day on January 26, the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) organised a series of impactful presentations for schoolchildren.

These presentations, held at the CROW Education Centre in Yellowwood Park, covered various environmental and conservation topics, such as wetland systems, sustainability, ecosystems, animal adaptations and reptile discussions. Additionally, guided trail walks were offered at the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve.

Each session, accommodating up to 60 learners, featured abundant educational resources aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of the environment and wildlife.

Clint Halkett-Siddall, CROW’s operations director, said as part of their commitment to reinforcing the conservation message, “CROW provided each primary school learner with a 10-page Wildlife Warriors Educational Activity Booklet. This resource enables learners to share and practise key conservation information with their schools, friends and families.”

Since its establishment in 1977, CROW has been dedicated to promoting environmental education and wildlife conservation in line with the founder, Isolde Mellet’s vision for the organisation. The CROW Wildlife Warrior Club, launched to educate learners from pre-primary to high school about the vital importance of conserving and protecting wildlife, has engaged over 160 000 children over the past 11 years.

“As a non-profit organisation, if you [allow] your student, child, grandchild or school participate in our education programme, [know that] all funds raised will be directly channeled towards the rescue, rehabilitation and release of indigenous wildlife,” said Siddall.

Interested individuals who would like to participate in future schools’ programmes, can contact CROW’s education officer, Pretty Gumede, on 031 462 1127, or email education@crowkzn.co.za to make a booking.
