Support Austerville school uniform and stationery drive

There is a big need for pre-loved school uniforms and stationery for school-going children, and Dominic Samuels hopes to make a difference through his organisation's initiative.

CHOWTIME Community Food Drive has launched their latest initiative – a school uniform and stationery collection drive.

The organisation is reaching out to the community, specifically parents, appealing for old school uniforms and spare stationery. Recognising the financial strain the back-to-school period often brings for parents, this drive aims to ease the burden. ChowTime Community Food Drive founder, Dominic Samuels, affectionately known as ‘Doms’ said last year’s drive was a tremendous success and highlighted the need for this type of drive in the area.

“People have the opportunity to swap and hand down pre-loved school uniforms to children whose parents cannot afford to buy. I believe that adding the collection of stationery will benefit the children and parents even further,” said Samuels. He added that they have created a WhatsApp group to allow people to swap whatever old or oversized clothing they may have for a correct size or to make donations.

Samuels encourages anyone interested to get involved with the drive. He said, “We would appreciate it if people could purchase the uniform and give them a call to pick up or they can call us and offer to sponsor a child. They will be given the child’s school name and size of uniform, or alternatively, cash is welcome as we can use it to buy the uniforms.”

Samuels hopes that the giving spirit will be kept alive in this drive, especially after their very successful toy drive. He added that he would love the opportunity to send children back to school with full sets of uniforms and stationery.

The drive will be ongoing until the end of February. To donate and get access to the WhatsApp group, contact Dominic Samuels on 068 038 3888.
