Local ward councillors share festive-season messages to their communities

Ward councillors, Gavin Hegter, Aubrey Snyman and Zoë Solomon, share their festive season messages as the year comes to an end.

AS we approach the end of 2023, the local ward councillors reflect on the year that was and share their messages to their respective communities for the festive season.

Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter.

Gavin Hegter (Ward 64):

It has not been an easy year for residents as we have seen service delivery in our city collapse. From streetlights not being repaired to sewage running down our roads for weeks and months, to estimated billing because our meters are not being read, the list is endless.

However, we cannot give up the fight for what we are entitled to. So, as 2024 approaches, the Democratic Alliance has called for the eThekwini Council to be dissolved and fresh elections held because we just can’t continue at this rate of failure.

I would like to wish all residents a joyous and, most importantly, a safe festive season as I can assure you that I will keep fighting for your rights. The year 2024 is going to be a game-changer for our country. I hope you are going to be part of that change.

Ward 68 councillor Aubrey Snyman.

Aubrey Snyman (ward 68):

This year has been tough for us all, with international wars affecting us drastically, fuel hikes and rising food prices, as well as endless domestic-related load-shedding issues, water disruptions, service delivery delays across all municipal departments, endless sewer blockages, lack of maintenance on ageing infrastructure and lack of job creation and development, especially for our youth.

Addressing crime and violence is our number one priority for our ward and, together with the police, we will be working jointly in trying to curb this especially over the festive period. However, we need the residents to be our eyes and ears on the ground, to assist with keeping our area safe. Please report any illegal or suspicious activities to the local police.

We are hopeful, though, that in the new year, we will see another national elections, which will bring about the much-needed change that is needed for the province and country.

I wish all the residents and visitors in Ward 68 a blessed and safe festive season, as well as a prosperous new year. May this time be for family and loved ones, and may the spirit of light, love and togetherness unite us all.

Ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon.

Zoë Solomon (ward 66):

I wish the residents of The Bluff a wonderful festive season holiday. Be safe, and look out for one another. Practice kindness, and spare a thought for the less fortunate at this time, wherever possible.

Recess is until January 8. I will see you all back for a new year filled with hope for a prosperous 2024.
