Fisherfolk from Wentworth, Merebank, Chatsworth, Isipingo, Verulam, uMdloti, Phoenix and Durban Central are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at the Dennis Hurley Centre on 2 Cathedral Road, Durban Central.

SDCEA’s Oil and Gas Livelihoods project officer, Janeira Reddy said, “The subsistence fisherfolk in KZN have had many challenges over the years. The municipality and government have repeatedly ignored the subsistence fisherfolk in Durban, yet they form a crucial sector of society which relies on fishing to feed themselves and their families.

“The meeting will entail feedback on the subsistence fishing policy, the opening beachfront piers, the subsistence fishing policy research, Grunter Gully, renewal of Transnet permits and sewage concerns in our ocean.”

The meeting will be held on November 8, from 10:00 to 13:00. For more information, email: janeira@sdceango.co.za.
