JUST IN: Armed robbers torment Merebank families

It is believed the armed gang is responsible for both house robberies.

TWO Merebank families were terrorised by a gang of armed robbers, who fled with jewellery, cash and laptops, earlier today (November 7).

According to reports from PT Alarms and Security, the suspects were travelling in a silver grey Toyota Prestige.

“PT Alarms Tactical units responded to Lakhimpur Road where an elderly couple and their family members were held up by the armed gang. The gang manhandled the elderly woman and demanded the man lie down on the floor.

“They ransacked the house and took a television, undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones and jewellery before they fled,” said PT Alarms and Security spokesperson, Dhevan Govindasamy.

It is believed that the same armed gang then masked their faces with balaclavas and invaded a home on Lahore Road in the Navy area shortly after the Lakhimpur Road robbery.

“A young woman was pistol-whipped, but fortunately sustained no serious injuries. The suspects took laptops, jewellery, and cellphones and fled. PT Ambulance Service responded to assist with medical treatment.

PT Alarms Tactical units searched the area for any sign of the vehicle,” Govindasamy added.

Wentworth SAPS responded to both robberies and are investigating further.
