Brighton Beach Police highlight need for children to be cared for, protected

An awareness campaign was held by the police to highlight children's rights.

IN commemoration of National Children’s Day on November 4, the Brighton Beach Police embarked on an awareness campaign aimed at reinforcing children’s rights and emphasising the responsibilities of those who care for them.

Captain Louise le Roux, the station’s spokesperson, said that through a collaboration with 27 educational institutes within the Brighton Beach policing precinct, parents, guardians and caregivers were engaged.

She said a laminated telephone bookmark with the contact details of support organisations and laminated posters were gifted to each educational institute. “The topics in each of the posters included the Children’s Act, 2005, in regards to child abuse, neglect and exploitation, children in need of care and protection, support to create safer school spaces, and the drug use and dependency of children.

“These posters and telephone bookmarks were distributed to parents, guardians and caregivers through the various communications platforms available at the institutes. The posters will also be displayed at designated areas for information consumption by learners.

“The police, through the support of stakeholders, such as educational institutes, has achieved its strategic objective in engaging multiple parents, guardians and caregivers. I would like to thank the school governing bodies, principals and staff for championing this initiative with the police. Awareness was created on the protection and rights of children through reconditioning those to whom the care of children has been entrusted,” she said.
