The centre’s operations director, Clint Halkett-Siddal, said the actions of the two young heroes who rescued the animals speak volumes about the power of compassion.

The five Eastern hingeback tortoises.

“Due to their ordeal, all of the animals were dehydrated and underweight. They are now in the loving and capable hands of our dedicated nurses and on the path to recovery.

“If residents ever encounter similar cases, they must remember to report the perpetrators to their local SPCA. Together, we can take a stand against the illegal trade of wildlife and protect these vulnerable beings.

“We thank these young wildlife champions for their courage and empathy. They are an inspiration to us all,” said Clint.
