MORE than four months after Transnet Freight Rail (TRF) manager Vinesh Bhoonpershad was shot and killed, his family are hoping for a breakthrough into his killing after the company offered a R250 000 reward.

It is alleged that Bhoonpershad, who was the manager of business improvement, came under attack while returning to the building from his vehicle following a break.

Captain Louise le Roux, Brighton Beach Police spokesperson, said a case of murder was being investigated.

“The victim was on foot returning from near the security entrance parking area to the office building. He was approached by two unknown men who fired several shots at him and thereafter fled the scene on foot. The victim was shot and killed,” she said.

Zodwa Mashishi, Transnet’s executive manager for corporate affairs, confirmed that a R250 000 reward was being offered.

“We have circulated an advert with the information regarding the reward, both internally and externally, on all our social media platforms. The reward is for the successful arrest, prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators of the fatal shooting of a Transnet employee,” she said.

Vishen Bhoonpershad, his son said, “With the reward being put forth, we have faith that there will be progress made in the case of my father’s brutal and undeserved murder.

“Since my father’s death, it has been mentally and financially challenging for our family. My father was a family-oriented man, religious, and a very hardworking and dedicated employee. We pray that those who are responsible for his death are brought to book,” he said.
