Proactive CPF tackles criminal elements in nature reserve

Residents have come together to do border patrols at the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve to combat crime.

THE Montclair Community Policing Forum (CPF) has launched an initiative to drive out thieves who prey on unsuspecting people in the the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve.

Urging the community to become more involved in keeping out criminals, Montclair CPF chairperson, Jackie Goncalves said, “We have started a border patrol and have teamed up with the rangers from the reserve after a few incidents occurred in the reserve.

“We believe that even though they may have not been major incidents, we will not sit and wait for something big to happen before we act. We started the patrol initiative with the community and members of the sub forum, and Yellowwood Park and Woodhaven residents, as well as rangers, to check for safety loopholes and help enhance areas we can help with.

“The community needs to be vigilant. Be the eyes and ears of the police so criminals do not take over our community and destroy our beautiful nature reserve.

“Report anything suspicious. There is a Montclair CPF community group as well as the Yellowwood Park neighbourhood alert group. We need the community to help us in the fight against crime. The area is large, and this will assist the rangers.

“We also encourage residents to be more proactive and join us in patrolling the borders of the reserve to ensure that we can eradicate criminal elements and stop crime,” Goncalves added.
