Spring joy for children in Montclair

The children planted trees and flowers on the verge to beautify the area and celebrate spring.

THE children at Pitta-Patta Playschool and Preparatory celebrated the start of spring by planting an array of colourful flowers on the verge along Wingate Road in Montclair.

The school adopted the verge and has been maintaining it for the past year.

Jackie Goncalves, owner of the school, said, “It was a fun day for the children as they got to dress up. They also helped us to plant flowers and trees on the verge.

“We decided to join the eThekwini Municipality’s Adopt-a-Verge initiative as this area was becoming a dumping ground. People would leave their refuse bags which would be torn by monkeys or dogs. There were also people parking on the side of the road, and if they were eating, they would then throw their food wrappings and leave.

“We decided to put up barricades using tyres, which we then painted and used to plant flowers inside. We also make to sure clean up the verge regularly. It is no longer an eyesore or dumping spot,” she said.
