Envelopes of Empowerment, containing educational information, were handed to women at Hillside Mall.

AS the country celebrates Women’s Month, Brighton Beach police officers paid tribute to the 1956 struggle heroines, as well empowered women at Hillside Mall on The Bluff recently.

“The content of the envelopes is aimed at empowering and educating women. The envelopes included the Brighton Beach Womens’ Network’s ‘hope is an attitude’ bookmark, which is aimed at reminding women that they must remain hopeful and never lose faith when trouble times or situations overwhelm them.

“We also included the Brighton Beach police telephone bookmark which provides emergency telephone numbers and contact details of various support organisations, as well as information on where they can lodge complaints when their rights are not being upheld by government departments,” she said.

Le Roux added that domestic violence and sexual assault awareness information guides were also provided. The domestic violence guide explains what a domestic relationship is, how to apply for an interim protection order, its purpose and the process that follows until a final order is granted.

“The objective of the sexual awareness guide is for victims to know which inappropriate actions imposed upon them by those known and unknown to them constitutes an act of sexual assault,” she said.

Le Roux said the guides also promoted the reporting of human trafficking to the South African National Human Trafficking Hotline on 0800 222 777 or info@0800222777.org.
