Two injured in taxi-truck collision

The Jaws of Life had to be used to free the driver.

TWO people were left seriously injured after a taxi allegedly collided with a truck on the corner of South Coast Road and Bluff Road on Thursday morning.

Garrith Jamieson, the spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Medical Services, said that on arrival, paramedics found that a taxi had allegedly lost control and collided with the rear of the truck.

“Two occupants in the taxi, the driver and a passenger had both sustained serious injuries. The passenger was extricated and treated by advanced life support paramedics on scene and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said.

Jamieson said the driver was entrapped in the wreckage.

“A call was made to the Netcare 911 Rescue Unit and the Durban Fire Department for their assistance. They used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to free the driver. The driver was then carefully extricated and transported to hospital by EMRS Paramedics in a stable condition.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the collision are unknown, however, SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further,” he said.
