WATCH: Residents urged to stockpile water ahead of possible shortage

Ward 66 councillor Zoe Solomon says a 1200mm gravity pipe that feeds the reservoirs has burst in a bush and technicians are trying to attend to it.

WARDS 66 and 64 residents are being urged to stockpile water due to technicians not being able to attend to a burst pipe that feeds the reservoirs that supply the areas.

Zoe Solomon, the ward 66 councillor, said, “A 1200mm gravity pipe that feeds Woodlands reservoirs one and two, and thereafter our reservoirs, has burst in the bush on the Umbilo River. There is debris covering the isolator, and the technicians are trying to get to it.”

Solomon added that the current outage in The Bluff area is not due to the burst pipe.

“Unfortunately, we have no signal on our repeaters for the telemetry department to pick up the levels at reservoir one, and someone needs to go there. Right now, this is not possible. If you have water, please stockpile some,” she said.

Gavin Hegter, the ward 64 councillor said, ” The teams are trying to get to the burst. However, we can expect the reservoirs to run dry shortly. I will provide updates as soon as I receive new information.”
