Bringing joy and hope to the lives of children

Children from Merebank and Wentworth were treated to day filled with fun activities, entertainment and delicious meals.

IN celebration of Youth Month, the non-profit organisation, Wentworth Angels, recently held a fun-filled day for scores of children from the Merebank and Wentworth communities.

Tracey Williams, the founder of the organisation, said it was a day meant to spoil the children and for them to feel loved.

“We had two jumping castles for the children, music, hot meals and plenty of sweet treats. My goal is to give back to the community, especially children as many of them come from disadvantaged homes. There are also many that often go to bed without a hot meal. It was a great feeling to see them smiling, playing and eating all the tasty treats,” she said.

Williams said the day would not have been possible without the sponsors.

“I would like to thank the team from Standard Bank Glenwood for making this possible, as well as Rajen’s Jumping Castles, Lynn Leech for the beautiful cakes, Jason Angels for the nutritional milk, and SA Harvest for the vegetables, as well as our special sponsor who pays for the delivery.

“It is a blessing to see the cheer, love and appreciation from both young and old. It also makes me proud and happy that I assist others in need,” she said.

Ginelle Johns, the branch manager at Standard Bank Glenwood, said staff committed to a certain amount each month, which was put towards doing charity work.

“We thought with it being youth month it could be put to good use. I have been involved with the Wentworth Angels for a number of years, as well the team having supported the organisation’s other initiatives. We always try to get involved were possible.

“We are doing our bit for the youth, who are the next generation. It is also our social responsibility to help make their future better, so they can lead better lives and help the future generations,” she said.
