Organisation donates sanitary pads to school girls

The learners at Clairwood Secondary School were given a pack of sanitary pads and an menstrual health awareness talk.

HOPING to provide some relief to school girls and create menstrual health awareness, the Khidmatul Khalq Foundation of South Africa, donated 510 packs of sanitary pads to the learners at Clairwood Secondary School recently.

Muhammad Masoom Bagdadi, the co-founder and chairperson of the foundation, said the donation was part of their primary projects which focuses on health care and awareness.

“The distribution of disposal sanitary pads is one of the foundation’s initiatives at various schools and in the rural areas, as we found that the government does not supply sufficient sanitary products. We also distribute the reusable and washable sanitary products, mainly in the rural areas.

“It is very important that we help young girls, not only by ensuring that they have the necessary sanitary products, but also to educate them on menstrual health and proper hygiene to prevent health problems that may arise, which will impact their attendance at school.

“A few years ago, the foundation partnered with the Gateway Health Institute, who provided the menstrual health and related awareness talks when we go out to the schools to do the handovers,” he said.
