Get ready to have a whale of a time at festival

There will be a variety of activities, including an arts and craft market, beach games and a clean-up.

IN JUST a few days, The Bluff will come alive as the Sodurba Community Tourism Organisation (CTO) will be hosting its 6th annual Welcoming of the Whales Festival™.

The festival is set to take place along Foreshore Drive on June 24, from 08:00 to 16:00. The event, which offers free admission to the public, will boast a variety of activities and entertainment for the whole family.

A number of activities have been planned, including an arts and crafts market, food stalls and beach games.

Educational stands that will be part of the programme include Grosvenor Library, Sodurba Tourism, Centre for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Green Corridors, Litter4Tokens, Litterboom Projects, MACE Lab, National Sea Rescue Institute, SAAMBR, Sail Africa, Seasearch, Sharks Board, Wessa, Wild Oceans, Greenpeace, EKNW and Adopt a River.

WESSA KZN will also be holding a beach clean-up on Ansteys Beach at 09:00 and a Rocky Shore guided walk at 13:00. Those keen to get involved are to meet at the WESSA stand.

There will also be a free park-and-ride facility from The Bluff Eco Park. Shuttles will be transporting guests down to Foreshore Drive.

Helga du Preez, the organisation’s chairperson, said there have already been regular sightings of whales.

“We are very excited and hopeful that they will be visible at the event. We are expecting a great turn-out this year, and with some great weather expected, we encourage everyone to attend the family-friendly, fun-filled event, ” she said.
