Centurial celebration for Yellowwood Park resident

Dhana believes that not having the stress of being responsible for a husband and children has definitely played a role in her living to 100.

SHOWERED with the love of her family and friends, Dhana Govender, celebrated her milestone 100th birthday and reflected on her fondest memories during her birthday celebration recently.

The sixth child born into a family of 10 children, Dhana lived with her parents and brothers in Clairwood before the Group Areas Act required them to move to Chatsworth, where she spend her younger days as a small scale vegetable farmer before moving to Yellowwood Park, where she currently resides.

After spending her days tending to the family’s garden, where they grew fresh vegetables and sold it at the local market.

“I have good memories of working in the garden with my mother and sister. I also enjoyed baking and cooking.

“I am thankful to God that I recovered well from two life-threatening experiences in August 2020 and November 2022,” she said.

Attributing her healthy and long lifespan to the fact that she has had a limited amount of stress to deal with, Dhana said, “I have been happy and single throughout my life. Not having the stress of being responsible for a husband and children has definitely played a role in me living this long,” added Dhana.
