Volunteers to create a clean and safe community

One of the aims of the clean-up is to clear away bushes and long grass which can pose a safety risk.

THE MONTCLAIR Community Policing Forum (CPF) invites residents to join their community clean-up day on May 20.

Volunteers from the community will embark on a clean-up of the Yellowwood Park area, and those who wish to extend a helping hand can pitch up with rakes, spades, black bags or grass-cutting tools between 11:00 and 14:00.

Vice-chairperson of the Montclair CPF, Jackie Goncalves, said the forum promotes the mindset of a clean space being a safe space.

“The aim of the clean-up is to clear away bushes and long grass which can pose a safety risk. We will also tackle the old, vandalised Scout hall. We are thankful to have the support of the community, as well as members of the Yellowwood Park Ratepayers’ Association and the Montclair Clean Team.

“During the clean-up, we will also identify hotspot areas so that criminals will be stopped in their tracks,” added Goncalves.

Residents can meet at Snipe Crescent, at the old Scout Hall, at 11:00, where cleaning will start. The team will thereafter proceed to Coedmore Avenue, Egret Way and end in Starling Avenue.

On May 21, a street patrol and educational awareness drive will be held in partnership with the Montclair Clean Team, eThekwini Municipality Safer Cities and DSW, between 10:00 to 14:00.

“The convoy will stop at key points in the community, as well as shopping malls and centres, to hand out pamphlets and educate residents on illegal dumping, and to explain to them how they can become involved in clean-ups,” Goncalves said.
