Youngsters pursue soccer dreams

Zack Meyer, who joined the team when he was eight-years-old, encourages more young girls to join the team.

YOUNG soccer fanatics from Blackpool Football Club, helping to enhance the soccer skills of youngsters in the Wentworth area, urge more children to join them in creating a united community soccer team.

With social ills causing a decay in the community as rife gang wars continue to claim the lives of children as young as 13, the team at Blackpool FC keep each other motivated to stay grounded through sport.
Method Makope, a striker for the team, said despite the teams losses, coaches and players remain motivated.

“We know that our community is riddled with drugs and we believe that if we use our energy for soccer instead of getting into trouble, we will be safe. We encourage all youngsters, boys and girls, no matter their age, to join so that we can grow as a team with discipline and better our community,” added Makope.

“Soccer promotes good health and increases fitness levels, thereby allowing youngsters to lead healthier lifestyles. We have an U7, U9, U12, U15 and U17 teams. We practice and play in tournaments and learn and grow together. Win or lose, we are here to have fun and become better people,” Meyer said.
