Police encourage patrons to be vigilant at shopping malls

Mall safety is all about always being alert and vigilant of your surroundings at all times.

Brighton Beach police are urging patrons to be more vigilant when visiting shopping malls.

Captain Louise le Roux, the police spokesperson, said members from visible policing recently hosted a mall safety integrated public awareness initiative at the Hillside Mall on the Bluff.

“The members conducted foot patrols, while engaging with shoppers and mentoring them on how to minimise the risk of falling prey to those with criminal intentions, ” she said.

Le Roux said patrons also received a safety information guide.

“The guide provides tips on how to minimise becoming a victim to those who prey on the vulnerabilities of shoppers, especially during the holiday period. However, it can be used during a visit to a mall or any public place.

“Mall safety is all about always being alert and vigilant of your surroundings. Some of the safety tips that were provided included the prevention of snatching/pocket picking, carjacking, theft from and out of motor vehicles, safety at the parking lots/bay, safety at the ATM and safety of children. It also promotes and encourages the use of the Crime Stop Tip-Off line,” she said.

To report a crime, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
