Wentworth police warn residents of increase in home invasions

Wentworth police are urging homeowners to more vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

A SPATE of burglaries reported at the Wentworth police station since February, has led police to issue a warning for residents to take extra safety precautions. Wentworth police spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said most of these burglaries usually occurs early morning between 04:00 to 07:00.

“This is usually when homeowners are asleep or when they have left for work. The Merewent area is mostly affected by this crime. Items which are targeted are: televisions flat screens, laptops, electrical tools grinders, microwaves, kettles, drills etc.

“Doors and small windows burglar guard are forced open in most instances and entry is gained. We are urging residents to report any suspicious people or a person unknown to them roaming around the area aimlessly and call the police immediately.

“If you see someone carrying large baggage and items mentioned above be concerned and notify the police. Items stolen in burglary premises are usually sold on the black market and on the street and members of the community should stop buying items suspicious of being stolen or stolen,” added Gumede.

Wentworth police encourage residents to improve or invest in security, by installing security lights, fix burglar guards, and ensure exterior light are working.
