Theatre-maker and singer brings children’s production to Wentworth

The play, which will be done in narration and song, was inspired from his children's song, Hello Mr Elephant.

WITH the school holidays around the corner, local theatre-maker and musician, Davyn Fourie, is all set to stage his children’s production, Storytales: Hello Mr Elephant. The production, which is in partnership with the Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation, is set to take place at the Austerville Community Centre on April 4 and April 8, from 09:30 to 10:00. There will be a second show on April 8, from 11:30 to 12:00. Entry is free.

Fourie, who is known for his contribution to the cultural enrichment of children, said the play is a joyful leap into an imaginative story about an elephant wanting to make friends on his first day at a new school.

“So, will Mr Elephant find his place at his new school? How will the rest of the animals receive him? You have to be around to find out. It will be a lot of fun. Children will be engaged on various themes such as imaginative thinking, being true to themselves, responsibility, perseverance, kindness and caring. There will also be audience participation to get the children in the vibe. The music gets the play going and the audience brings the show to life,” he said.

Fourie, a teacher, said the play, which will be done in narration and song, was inspired from his children’s song, Hello Mr Elephant.

“The song is about jungle animals, friendships and emotions. The song itself was inspired following a lesson teaching EFL (English as a foreign language) in China. The little ones can also expect toe-tapping nursery rhyme style sing-alongs,” he said.

Fourie added that the play is aimed at children aged between five and nine, and supervision must be provided for children below age five.
