Apply now – 1000 trading sites open up for informal traders

Trading sites start at R50, with costs going up depending on services available at the site.

THERE are more than 1 000 vacant trading sites, units, and kiosks available for informal traders to utilise and the eThekwini Municipality is inviting interested traders to apply to secure a spot before March 31.

In a statement, the City said informal trading sites are available in coastal areas as well as the upper north region, south areas, central business district, and in the inner and outer west.

“The trading site costs vary from R50 per month upwards and are dependent on the services provided at the site. These services include cleaning services, security, ablution facilities, a cool room for perishable goods traders, and storage facilities. Various informal trade infrastructural development is underway across eThekwini to unlock trading space for the local business community,” said the City.

Potential applicants are invited to apply should they:

  •  be trading on a full-time basis
  •  be unemployed or have no other business
  •  not have another trading stall within eThekwini

The application letter should include the following information:

  • trading activity/ list products to be sold
  • South African ID copy; if a foreign national then a legal work permit must be produced
  • state if the applicant is physically challenged and supply proof
  • address and proof of address
  • state applicant’s gender.
  • applicant’s contact details.

Traders should direct and send their applications to the area manager of the region where they wish to trade in. If applicants are not contacted within two months of the closing date of the advertisement, they should consider their application unsuccessful.
