South Durban residents join march against GBV

The South Durban Rapid Response Team says they're always available to assist victims as they should never feel alone and suffer secondary trauma.

THE South Durban Rapid Response Team (RTT), which was formed and tasked with responding to the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) cases, joined the Barefoot in Black march against GBV and femicide in central Durban recently.

Hosted in conjunction with the KwaZulu-Natal Network on Violence against Women, the march saw protestors with placards make their way from Park King Dinuzulu to Durban City hall to shine the spotlight on the country’s increasing statistics.

RTT’s Audrey Anderson, said the organisation, consisting of various different organisations from within the fence-line communities of Wentworth, Merebank and The Bluff, joined the call for the Barefoot in Black march to highlight the various civil society issues.

“We want people to know that there is help. At the RTT, we are available to assist victims with direct referral pathways. Victims should never feel alone and suffer secondary trauma.

“We will be there to assist from the moment you become a victim. We aspire to serve and empower our communities, schools and youth.
“Let us break the silence and not suffer in silence alone. Enough is enough. Your pain is my pain too,” said Anderson.
