Police recover truck with R4m worth of stolen goods

The garments were located and recovered in Silverglen.

R4 MILLION worth of clothing stolen from a business premises in Clairwood was recovered in Silverglen, Chatsworth, by Bayview police, on March 5. According to police reports at Bayview police station, at about 02:00, the security guard at a business premises in Clairwood was accosted by men armed with pistols.

Communications officer of the Bayview police station, Warrant Officer Collin Chetty, said the assailants managed to find the keys to a truck and trailer, with a container containing garments to the value of R4 million, which was waiting to be cleared by customs.

“The suspects took the guard with them and dropped him off on the freeway near Malvern. He made his way to Malvern police station, where tracker was alerted. The truck and trailer, as well as the empty container, were recovered on the M7,” said Chetty.

The garments were located and recovered by Detective Warrant Officer Babs Perumal, Detective Warrant Officer Shadrack Govender and Detective Warrant Officer Preggie Naidoo, at a premises in Silverglen. One suspect, the driver of the truck who was requested to pick up the stolen goods, was arrested.

The truck and trailer, as well as the container with the clothing were recovered and returned to the owner, Nazeer Omar. Omar thanked the detectives and commended them for the excellent investigation.
