Teen archery champ scoops bronze medal at international championship

Danya Kara Thompson achieved her Protea colours last year, which allowed her the opportunity to participate in the international championship.

BLUFF’s archery champ, Danya Kara Thompson, has added another notch on her belt, having earned a bronze medal at the 2023 IFAA World Indoor Championships (WIAC).

Danya, 14, of Oceanview, competed among over 420 archers from 26 countries at the championship which recently took place in Kent, United Kingdom.

The Grade 10 learner at Durban Girls High School, achieved her Protea colours last year, which allowed her the opportunity to participate in the international championship.

Danya, who is a member of the Archers Archery Club, said it was a great honour to represent her country and that she enjoyed every moment.

Thompson who came in at third place, was awarded a bronze medal.

“I am still excited about my achievement, as well overwhelmed with all the support that I have received. I cannot wait to see what the future holds,” she said.
