A great start to 2023 drummie season

Majorettes who achieved their provincial colours on February 9 will be attending trials for the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) Colours and to be part of the SA team that will compete in Croatia, later this year.

FYNNLAND Crest Majorettes had a great start to the 2023 drummie season, with a number of their current and past team members being awarded their KZN Colours for majorettes. The selection process took place over two days in January, with drummies enduring 20 hours of tough training in high temperatures and pouring rain.
The sunburn, sore muscles, and exhaustion were worth it for every majorette who took part as they learned vital skills and had their determination and commitment were put to the test, which they all passed with flying colours.

Casey Collett was presented with her KZN Colours badge by chief adjudicator, Pam Greenway.

The club’s Bonny Fourie, said, “Two of our team’s current majorettes, Casey Collett and Ryleigh Wybrow, were awarded their KZN Colours after the trials, while a number of our former members, who now compete for the DGHS drummie team, also earned their colours. Two of these girls, Kelli-Ann Gray and Tyra Mentoor, were part of the 2022 Fynnland Crest Majorette team,” added Fourie.

On February 9, majorettes who achieved their provincial colours will be attending trials for the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) Colours and to be part of the SA team that will compete in Croatia, later this year.

“The girls who make the team and take part in the MWF World Championships stand a chance of being awarded their Protea Colours. Not only have our girls been working hard to attain their provincial and SAMCA colours in their individual capacities, but they have been training with their respective teams preparing for the 2023 competition season,” Fourie said.

The first competition on the KZN calendar will be held on March 11. The KZN Provincial Championships will be held over two days in May and June, and the SAMCA National Championships will be held from July 1 to 8, in KZN.

“We are working hard to fundraise for these championships. Although it is being held in our home turf, the team will still need to cover their accommodation and meals for the week, team transport to and from the event, as well as entry fees and other costs associated with the national competition.

“We are currently carrying out a number of fundraising measures including raffles, lucky draws, and donation collection at local shopping centres. We are also appealing to companies and individuals who are able to assist with sponsorships or donations to please consider our beautiful team when planning their budgets for 2023/2024,” said Fourie.

Anyone who is able to assist can contact the chairperson Renise Dunn on 084 307 2864.
