Durban Solid Waste encourages ward 64 residents to keep community clean

The residents are encouraged to adopt-a-spot or verge in a bid to keep the area clean.

WARD 64 residents are being urged to check the correct days and times before putting out their refuse for collection, as well as to refrain from illegal dumping. The eThekwini Municipality’s Durban Solid Waste (DSW) education section embarked on an awareness campaign speaking to residents outside the Yellowwood Park Spar in Pelican Place on February 11.

Emeldah Mkhulisi, the DSW education officer said during the campaign, residents were reminded of the correct days and times.

“We also asked that they refrain from dumping their household waste into the bins outside Spar. They were also provided with information pamphlets and encouraged to get involved in recycling. We do have residents that are already recycling and are provided with the orange bags. They were informed not to mix their waste,” she said.

Mkhulisi said the residents were also encouraged to adopt-a-spot or verge in a bid to keep the area clean.

“We also have residents who have adopted a spot and these areas are very well-maintained. We need more residents to get involved in this initiative in order to help keep the community clean.
“For anyone that needs more information on how to adopt-a-spot or a verge, they can contact us and we will gladly assist. Let us work together to create better communities,” she said.
