Another water outage for Ward 64

The City’s inability to maintain infrastructure for years has led to the Woodlands water tower needing to be repaired.

RESIDENTS living in large parts of Woodlands, Montclair, Woodhaven and Yellowwood Park are affected by another water outage, which is being investigated.

Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter said the areas which are affected are all supplied by the Woodlands tower.

“I have spoken to the head of bulk water supply, and he currently has a team on the ground investigating. I will update residents when new information is received,” he added.

Hegter said infrastructure in the city is so old and has not been maintained for years, which is a key fact leading to its collapse.

“Coupled with the shrinking rates base, the City does not have money to do capital projects to replace the infrastructure. Residents can expect longer periods of electricity outages.

“With regards to water, the municipality is still not receiving enough supply from Umgeni water, and this is resulting in various reservoirs throughout the city running dry,” added Hegter.
