WATCH: Wentworth residents address safety concerns and gang violence with police

A memorandum was handed to the Wentworth police station police, requesting that police minister Bheki Cele and the Provincial Task Team root out the ongoing gang violence and drug dealing in the community.

ANGRY, frustrated, fearful and grieving Wentworth residents, who are tired of the rampant shootings at any time of the day and night, gathered outside the Wentworth police station to hand over a memorandum to police.

With the hope that things will change, residents shared their concerns about the violence, which has gripped the community, then handed in the memorandum, which called for more visible policing and the rooting out of drug dealers and corrupt police officers who contribute to the ongoing gang violence.

The memorandum requests for police minister Bheki Cele and the Provincial Task Team to respond to the call of action. It was handed to the station commander of the Wentworth police station, Colonel Sinayo Mtshali.

Although police were given two days to respond to the memorandum, Mtshali said the response will be provided within 14 days.
