Organisations hopes to make a difference in the lives of women

These trainings have been carried out through group work, reflection and presentations. Each of the attendees have been trained and will qualify as trainers once they have planned and executed a "women can do it" workshop.

THE democratic and activist-driven campaign, Right2Know, hosted a training session for 31 women to be trainers for their newly-launched, “Women can do it programme”, at The Bluff Eco Park recently.

The national campaign, which was started in 2010 and has its KwaZulu-Natal offices in Clairwood, aims to strengthen and unite citizens to raise public awareness, mobilise communities and undertake research and targeted advocacy to ensure the free flow of information.

Verushka Memdutt, the national coordinator of the campaign, said the training covered democracy and women participation, communication, speeches, debates, working with the media, negotiations, advocacy and campaigns, violence against women and how to arrange training.

“These trainings have been carried out through group work, reflection and presentations. Each of the attendees have been trained and will qualify as trainers once they have planned and executed a “women can do it” workshop. We encourage women to become involved in this programme with the aim of reaching as many women and women organisations as possible.

“We also call on all media houses, progressive organisations, influential individuals, activists and interested persons to become part of this great programme and create opportunities for women to realise their true potential and thrive,” she said.
