WATCH: Bluff home turns into Christmas Wonderland

While the family do not charge any money as entry to their homely Christmas wonderland, they have used the display as an opportunity to start an initiative to donate pet foods to help make Christmas special for animals that live in shelters.

IT’S that time of the year again when the Botha family home in Gatwick Close, on The Bluff, brings Christmas magic with a fully-decorated front garden Christmas wonderland for residents to view.

Photographer, Warren Dick, with Tinus Botha and his son, Jason, at the pet food collection area.

Inviting residents to view the displays and lights at their home is a Botha family tradition started to share the Christmas spirit while encouraging residents to get actively involved in donating to animals.

Children were delighted to be able to tour the garden and home of the Botha’s.

While the family do not charge any money as entry to their homely Christmas wonderland, they have used the display as an opportunity to start an initiative to donate pet foods to help make Christmas special for animals that live in shelters.

Therefore, entry fee to the home is an item of dog or cat food.
Local photographer, Warren Dick, said he was excited back in 2013, in mid-December looking for homes on The Bluff with Christmas lights on display to try out his photography skills.
“I soon found the Botha family home and took a few pictures, and posted it on Facebook. After the post, they had quite a few people visit their house.

Darren, Trey and Taryn Haniff visited the home on the first day of the viewing.

“I then decided to take photos every year. Sadly, in recent years, not so many houses put any decorations anymore, except the Botha family. About four years ago, I suggested to them to use the occasion to raise funds for a charity and was pleased to hear that they decided on helping out the fur babies.
“It takes them the most of November to set up their front garden into the beautiful Christmas wonderland for all to enjoy.

Tinus and Jason Botha invite residents to their home to view the displays.

“Last year, the family collected more than a ton of dog and cat foods for rescue organisations in the south Durban area and we hope to surpass expectations again, this year,” said Dick.
Viewing of the lights and display is weather and load-shedding permitting.
The Botha family home is situated at 8 Gatwick Close, near Grosvenor Girls High School. The display will be made available to the public until December 24, from 19:15 to 21:00.
