Commemorated annually from November 25 to December 10, the campaign focuses on raising awareness to the devastating impact that gender-based violence and femicide has on women and children, and the social fabric of society.

Communications officer of the Wentworth police station, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said the initiative was held at the corner of Austerville Drive and Quality Street, and was well received by the community, as well as motorists who hooted in support of the campaign.

“Members of the Wentworth Victim Friendly Centre and Rapid Response Team formed to fight the scourge of gender-based violence, joined us to create awareness by distributing pamphlets. Police also used a loud hailer to educate residents on both gender-based violence and other crimes affecting the community,” said Gumede.
