A giant heap of toys was collected to handover to underprivileged children from various children’s homes around Durban, while attendees were also given a chance to donate to animal organisations, Bark Angel, the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) and the Durban South Lions Club.

The Toy Run is South Africa’s largest motorcycle ride for charity and is held on the last Sunday in November, every year.

Country-wide, motorcycle riders from different clubs host their leg of the event in all parts of the nine provinces and toys and stuffed animals are strapped to bikes before bikers ride to the event, creating awareness on the initiative.

Toys, gifts and funds collected on the day are donated to children in need in homes, orphanages, places of safety and hospitals around the country.

Organiser of the Durban leg of the Toy Run, Johan Boes, fondly known as Joe, from the Highway Dragons Motorcycle Club, said he was proud to be at the forefront of driving the Toy Run for the past 25 years.
“It gives us great pleasure to be able to spread joy among children in need during this time of year,” he added.
