Spread joy this festive season by donating to Bluff old age home

The hut is open on Mondays between 14:00 and 16:00, as well on Wednesdays and Fridays between 09:00 and 11:00.

CHRISTMAS, a time to celebrate with family and friends and making memories, especially around the dining table with a scrumptious meal.

This is what the residence of the Arcadia Old Age Homes on the Bluff are hoping for this year, and they are asking for donations from the community, which they can sell to raise money to have a Christmas lunch.
The homes, which is situated in Peacehaven Place, caters for 105 residents, aged from 60 and over, both singles and couples. It was originally built for returning soldiers from the World War II.

Michael Layfield, treasurer of the Arcadia Residents Committee, said many of the residents do not have family in the province.

“As many will not get to spend this holiday season with their family, we though if they could at least have a Christmas lunch with friends, it would bring great joy to them. We also want to have spot prizes, by placing numbered stickers underneath some chairs, and giving prizes according to sticker number,” he said.

Layfield said they have a hut on the premises, from which they sell donated items.

“Some of the items we sell include bric-a-brac, good quality clothing, small working kitchen appliances, crockery and cutlery, among other goods. The money raised from the sale of these items help us to have events such as boerewors roll evenings, or to hire a DJ to entertain residents in our hall in the evenings. We also want to take the residents on excursions to places such as the aquarium.

“However, having the Christmas lunch for the residents will make them feel wanted and appreciated and not alone,” he said.

The hut is open on Mondays between 14:00 and 16:00, as well on Wednesdays and Fridays between 09:00 and 11:00.
