Wentworth’s Rapid Response Team all set to launch

The event, which will be held on November 18 at the Austerville Community Hall, will provide residents with an opportunity to get information or clarity on any case outstanding in court.

THE official launch of the South Durban Rapid Response Team (RRT) tasked to respond to the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) is set to tackle issues faced by residents, head on.

The event, which will be held on November 18 at the Austerville Community Hall from 10:00, will provide residents with an opportunity to get information or clarity on any case outstanding in court.

Those who wish to break the silence and in desperate need of help are also encouraged to attend.
Representative of the RRT, Audrey Anderson, said the National Strategic Plan on Gender Based Violence and Femicide (NSP GBVF) states that everyone has a responsibility to respond to the scourge of this pandemic.

“The purpose of the RRT is to ensure a well-co-ordinated response as in having clear referral pathways to assist survivors of GBV to avoid secondary victimisation. Key stakeholders will also be in attendance and will conduct short presentations,” said Anderson.
Representatives from the Department of Justice, Department of Social Development, eThekwini Municipality Mayor’s office, Department of Health, South African Police Service and eThekwini Municipality will be present and clinic facilitators, as well as members of the faith-based sector will also be present.

“Activists who are in the forefront of fighting GBV and femicide from various communities will be available for engagement. The event will also serve to provide residents with information that is aimed to empower people together, as a community. Information tables will be set up where residents can meet and greet the various stakeholders,” added Anderson.
