Bluff surfer off to open national championship

The surf instructor spent weeks preparing for the championship and thanked residents for supporting his fundraising initiatives, which contributed towards him being able to compete.

BLUFF’s pro surfer, Scott Venter, will once again make waves at the Open National Surfing Championship in Victoria Bay, Western Cape, from October 27 to 30,

Winning the event will take Venter one step closer to achieving his national colours.

The surf instructor spent weeks preparing for the championship and thanked residents for supporting his fundraising initiatives, which contributed towards him being able to compete.

“I appreciate all those that have supported my fundraisers and thank all the musicians that have been there to help. A special thanks goes to Grant Lazenby of Bothners Music in Glenwood, and Johnny Stuart, for helping me raise enough money to get there.
“Victoria Bay is easily one of the most favourite places in South Africa. If anyone has never been there, it is one place to make sure you visit. There is a beautiful cobble stone right hand point break nestled in a giant gorge.

“I am hoping the waves are contestable and the winds are favourable. It would be a dream come true winning this event and I am excited that it will bring me one step closer to achieving my national colours, which has always alluded me for reasons I do not understand. This will probably be my last time competing in the open division,” Scott said.

After competing in Western Cape, Scott, who was placed second at the South African National Surfing Championships in August, will prepare to compete in the masters championship, next year.
