Help underprivileged learners attend matric dance

Some matric learners at Wentworth Secondary School, are unable to buy a ticket, which costs R580, or attire for their dance on October 14.

AFTER a long schooling career, many matric learners are now looking forward to their upcoming farewell dance.

It will be a time for the girls to glam up in their best dresses, and the boys in their exquisite suits, and have the opportunity to mingle with their classmates.

However, this is a dream that hangs in the balance for some matric learners at Wentworth Secondary School, who are unable to buy a ticket, which costs R580, or attire for their dance on October 14.

Sheldon Francis and his wife, Zenobia, the founders of the non-profit organisations, Children Have a Dream (CHAD), and Making A Difference (MAD) are now seeking assistance from the community.

Francis said the organisation has been working closely with the matric pupils at the school throughout the year.

“We understand their needs and challenges, with finance being a major obstacle. However, our organisation believes that these children have reached their final year of school after 12 or 13 years of pure dedication and hard work, and deserve to attend their farewell dance.

“Our organisation and educators identified 10 underprivileged pupils, that are not able to afford the ticket or clothes and are now trying to assist them. We are now pleading to the community to please help make their dreams come true,” he said.

Francis said they have since bought three tickets.

“However, will need to pay for the rest by the end of the week, for catering purposes. We also only have three dresses and a suit, and still need more outfits.

“We also ask if anyone can assist the children with their makeup and hairstyling. It will be highly appreciated,” he said.

If you would like to assist, contact Francis on 067 127 0286.
