Thousands of litres of water wasted due to burst pipe

The water overflowed from Tuesday night until a short while ago.

RESIDENTS living in parts of Yellowwood Park have been left without water for hours due to a burst pipe on Wren Way on Tuesday evening.

Rave Naidoo, the Yellowwood Park Sub-forum CPF chairperson, said a water pipe situated outside a property burst at around 19:00.

The water from a burst pipe overflowed into the properties.

“We had managed to get the Water Department to come out last night, unfortunately, it seemed like the main pipe that feeds the area had burst, and they were unable to turn the water off, as a certain team from the municipality needed to attend to it.”

“However, this resulted in possibly thousands of litres of water being wasted as it flowed non-stop from last night till a short while ago. Some of the residents have also been impacted, as the water flowed into about six properties, and they will have to now check if there is any structural damage. We just hope that the municipality can repair or replace the pipe, so we don’t have water wastage again,” he said.

Naidoo said a team from the eThekwini Municipality was currently in the area.

Gavin Hegter, the ward 64 councillor, said residents who require water can collect from the Yellowwood Park Civic Hall.

“Water tankers have also been requested.”
