Ward 64 residents can expect delay in refuse collection

The City apologises for the inconvenience caused and asks residents to take their refuse inside for now.

RESIDENTS of Ward 64 can expect a disruption in their refuse being collected due to a Durban Solid Waste strike on Tuesday, August 16.

In a statement earlier today, the eThekwini Municipality said due to the illegal work stoppage by cleansing and solid waste employees, there is an interruption in waste collection and street sweeping in eThekwini.

The municipality said the employees downed tools due to the overtime cuts that were implemented on August 1.

“Residents and businesses are requested to keep their refuse bags and bins inside their properties until the situation is resolved. The City apologises for the inconvenience caused.”

Gavin Hegter, the Ward 64 councillor, said refuse collection in the area was expected to start later on Tuesday.

“However, if your refuse is not collected today, please take it back onto your property and put it out again tomorrow. This will most likely have a knock-on effect for the rest of the week.”
